World Series Set To get Underway with Game 1 Friday Night

For the 12th time in history, and after a long 43 years, the World Series participants are two of the most iconic brands that baseball has ever known - the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Had the Dodgers not prevailed in the NL Championship series, we would have had a New York Subway Series between the Yankees and Mets.

As it is, the Dodgers won their series in 6 games, 4-2, and the Yankees took care of business in 5 games, 4-1.

Who's expected to win the 2024 World Series? Do the Dodgers win their second World Series in the past five years, or is it title No. 28 for the Yankees?

Game 1 gets underway Friday night at Chavez Ravine. Every game will be broadcast on Fox. Jack Flaherty (13-7) will be on the bump for the Dodgers while the Yankees will send Gerrit Cole (8-5) to the mound. The Dodgers are favored on the moneyline (-122) in game 1, and by 1.5 runs.

This is the second-longest pennant drought for the Yankees since winning their first World Series in 1921 in their 19th season of existence. Since then, the longest drought in WS appearances occurred between winning the 1978 to 1996 pennants. This drought had been ongoing since the 2009 series. That was the year that the new stadium opened and they took down Philadelphia in six games for the 27th World Series crown for the Bronx Bombers. They have appeared in the Fall Classic 40 times altogether.
