Weekend Recap, Computer Rankings - Basically a 3-Way Tie Now for 4th

The new Congrove Computer Rankings, released shortly after the completion of the final weekend game, essentially has a 3-way tie for 4th place behind Ohio State, Georgia and Michigan. Tennessee, Clemson and Alabama are separated by no more than 0.01 of ratings point.

Tennessee gets the nod for 4th by 0.008 over Clemson and Alabama. The Vols have a rating of 88.52, while the Tigers sit at 88.512 and the Tide at 88.510.

Ole Miss, Syracuse and Oregon all lost for the first time, leaving 6 teams undefeated - Ohio State, Georgia, Michigan, Tennessee, Clemson and TCU.

Top-ranked Ohio State rolled to a 54-10 win over Iowa, while No. 2 Georgia and No. 3 Michigan were both idle.

Tennessee was a 65-24 winner over FCS member UT-Martin after the Vols built a 52-7 halftime lead and sat Heisman front-runner Hendon Hooker for the second half.

Clemson rallied for its 38th straight home win. The Tigers handed Syracuse its first loss, 27-21, after trailing by as much as 21-7. Dabo Swinney had to pull quarterback DJ Uiagalelei after he thew his second interception with 6:27 to go in the 3rd. Klubnik immediately led the team on a 49-yard drive for a FG, followed by an 80-yard drive for a touchdown. Will Shipley ran 50 yards for another score to put Clemson on top 24-21 with 11:26 left in the 4th.

Syracuse only slipped from 10th to 12th with the loss.

Alabama had no issues with Mississippi State, rolling to a 30-0 lead before losing the shutout with a short TD run as the clock struck 0:00 for a 30-6 final. The Bulldogs were playing with heavy hearts after learning Wednesday that freshman member Sam Westmoreland had been found dead. Mississippi State plunged from 21 to 31 in the rankings.

TCU moves up to 7th after beating Kansas State 38-28. The Wildcats fall from 13th to 24th. The Horned Frogs scored the final 28 points of the game after digging a 28-10 hole by the middle of the 2nd quarter. TCU trimmed the score to 28-17 with 20 seconds left in the half and held Kansas State scoreless for the final 38:09 of the game. It's the fourth straight win over a ranked opponent for the Horned Frogs, and the second consecutive game in which they stormed back from a deficit of 17 or more.

No. 8 Oklahoma State, the team TCU rallied past last week, staged a comeback of its own in a 41-34 victory at Texas. The Cowboys trailed 31-17 in the 2nd and 34-24 late in the 3rd. OSU scored the final 17 points of the game to pull out the win.

Oregon moves from 11th to 9th with a 40-25 win over UCLA. The Bruins, who had been the last undefeated team remaining in the PAC-12, fell from 14th to 21st with the loss. The Ducks now stand alone at the top of the conference standings at 4-0. UCLA, USC and Utah each trail with a single loss.

Wake Forest closes out the top ten, rising from No. 12 after a 43-15 win at Boston College. Sam Hartman accounted for 6 TD's with 5 passing and 1 rushing.

Penn State rockets from 16th to 11th after trouncing Minnesota 45-17 at its 'White-out" in Happy Valley.

Ole Miss drops from 7th to 13th after getting bashed 45-20 at LSU whose fans stormed the field after the win. The Bayou Bengals were in a 17-3 hole before outscoring the Rebels 42-3 the rest of the way. LSU rises from 36 to 26.

Cincinnati takes 14th, followed by five teams that were idle - North Carolina, Utah, Illinois, NC State and USC.

Oregon State closes out the Top 20.

The Bearcats were 29-27 winners at SMU after coughing up a 29-14 lead until the 5:09 mark of the final quarter. The Mustangs scored at TD, forced a 3-and-out, and scored another TD -  all within 3 minutes and 12 seconds - but the ' 2-point conversion pass attempt failed with 1:57 remaining.

The Beavers were much easier winners, scoring a 42-9 romp in Corvallis over Colorado.

Rounding out the Top 25 are UCLA at 21, in front of Maryland, Kentucky, Kansas State and South Carolina.

Maryland bumps up from 25th to 22nd on the heels of a 31-24 comeback victory at home over lowly Northwestern.

Kentucky rises from 28th to 23rd by not playing.

South Carolina lands at No. 25 as the Gamecocks improved to 5-2 with a 30-24 win at home over Texas A&M. It's South Carolina's first win over the Aggies in nine tries.

UCF dropped from 17th to 28th with its 34-13 loss at East Carolina.

There will be 118 FBS vs. FCS matchups this season with App State, Army and Marshall each playing two such games, and 115 other FBS schools playing one apiece.

One of this season's final 6 FBS-FCS matchups took place on Saturday with UT-Martin visiting Tennessee. The Vols breezed to a 65-24 win.

The FBS is 105-8 vs. the FCS this year, and 1,679-148 (.919) since we began tracking this in 2003.
