9 Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) teams open the 2017 college football season on Saturday (August 26), including Stanford and Rice when they square off in Australia.
The Sydney Cup will air at 10 P.M. eastern time on Saturday night, which is actually Noon on Sunday in the land down under.
The Stanford-Rice clash was not manufactured for the purpose of playing it in Australia. It was originally scheduled to be played at Rice on September 2.
This marks the second consecutive season that Sydney has hosted an opening-season college football game. Cal defeated Hawaii 51-31 last year in front of 61,247 fans.
