Football, the truest pastime of America, showcases its irresistible charm with every single game. From the adrenaline-pumping Hail Mary throws by quarterbacks to their cunning scrambles toward a glorious touchdown, the excitement is unmatched. While February's Big Game is the ultimate platform for star quarterbacks to shine, let's uncover the truth - they don't magically appear out of thin air. Well, not all of them, at least.
So, which schools can proudly claim to have supplied the greatest number of active QBs in the league? Let's find out.
Currently, the Oklahoma Sooners boast the highest number of quarterbacks starting in the NFL. As of week 13 of the 2023 season, the trio includes Jalen Hurts, Baker Mayfield, and Kyler Murray. The latter two of those three were both selected as the number one overall pick in their respective drafts, however, it is Mayfield who has recently come into his own.
He made the move to Tampa Bay last summer, knocking off fellow Oklahoma alumni Hurts in the wild-card round of the playoffs in dominating fashion, throwing for 337 yards and three touchdowns in a resounding 32-9 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. He led the Bucs into the Divisional Round of the playoffs where they were defeated by the Detroit Lions, who will now prepare for the NFC Championship. The Detroit Lions will be facing the San Francisco 49ers, who are listed as the +125 favorites in the NFL latest odds.
Since making his mark halfway through his rookie season, the 25-year-old Hurts has been a revelation. He's been stealing all the headlines and wowing fans with his exceptional performance, so much so that those looking to place a Super Bowl bet could have backed the Lincoln Financial Field side at odds of +1700 barely a week ago. However, fast forward to today and the Eagles have already been sent packing.

It marks a stark contrast to last season where Hurts guided his side to the grand stage of the Super Bowl, a feat they hadn't accomplished since their jaw-dropping 41-33 triumph over the New England Patriots in 2018. Alas, their second venture into the illustrious event didn't yield the same outcome, but it wasn't due to a lack of effort on Hurts' part.
He delivered a dazzling performance that will be etched in Super Bowl history, tallying an impressive 304 passing yards and a touchdown, along with an additional four touchdowns and 70 rushing yards. Unfortunately, he won't be featuring in the Big Game again, at least not this season anyway.
Both the University of Alabama and Ohio State deserve a mention. Each of the esteemed colleges has provided two active quarterbacks to the NFL. The Carolina Panthers' number one overall pick in last year's draft as well as the Miami Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa starred for the former while the current face of the Houston Texans franchise as well as Justin Fields of the Chicago Bears shone brightly for the latter.
