The Best of the Best - Our Top 3 NFL Most Valuable Player Candidates for 2020

November 11, 2020 by Staff

We're midway through the NFL season and, for many fans out there, this is the perfect time to talk about potential MVP candidates. Everyone has a favorite player or two, and it's fun to have passionate conversations about who deserves to be called "the best." Whether you enjoy rooting for dark horses or you worship the proven champions, the excitement is palpable.

Certain players have managed to rise so far above their competition that we think it's only fair to give them their due credit. We’ll go over who we think has the best odds for the Most Valuable Player award. Whether it's through their sheer consistency or their unique skill sets, these players are on top of the NFL world, and not a drop of it is undeserved.

Let's have a look at the candidates:

Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers is the caliber of player you would want on any fantasy lineup. The Packers Powerhouse has stats that would embarrass even some of the most talented players in the NFL, and he is showing no signs of slowing down. With 1,657 yards, 17 touchdowns, and two interceptions, he looks poised to take over the entire league. His previous track record is also admirable, with multiple seasons of top-notch performance under his belt.

It takes a lot of discipline to come back from a performance like the one against Tampa Bay, but his other matches make that game look like just a bad dream. It could (and often is) argued that Green Bay's catchers are not up to par with their legendary quarterback, but Rodgers doesn't seem to mind. He can carry an entire team on his back and make it look like a warm-up.

Consistency is key to winning, and Rodgers has only a small handful of rivals in that category.

Much of the Green Bay Packers' strategy revolves around Rodgers' miracle work. He has been the engine behind all their recent successes, and one can't help but wonder whether the Packers would take over completely if the rest of the team could be on his level of play. Still, Rodgers brings out the best in all of them and is a relatively safe pick for the MVP award. It wouldn't be his first one, either.

Patrick Mahomes

If you're looking to bet on raw talent, Patrick Mahomes is your man. In his first 32 games, he threw for a record-breaking 79 TD passes, and his performances these days are as impressive as you'd expect. Practically no one can match Mahomes at his peak, and he has proven capable of destroying entire defensive lineups with his throws. Even in a team like Kansas City Chiefs, Mahomes stands out as a star performer, a champion among champions. He's been instrumental to Kansas City's success, and a simple glance at his stats is enough to be convinced.

Even in a season where some would say he's underperforming, he has 1,899 yards, 16 touchdown passes, and only one interception. If that's sub-par, then the other teams should hope he doesn't go back to his standard level of performance. If he does, few teams will be able to match Kansas City's offensive power, if any.

Naysayers will argue that his stats only look as good as they do because of his team's immense talent. But there's no denying the immense presence he commands on the field and the impact he has had on the entire league.

Russell Wilson

With a staggering 28 touchdown passes in the season, Russell Wilson leads the entire league. He's well on his way towards breaking several records, such as Peyton Manning's jaw-dropping 55 touchdown passes in a single season. The Seattle Seahawks have the most points per game of any team in the NFL right now, and it's no secret why that is the case. When it comes to aggression and red-zone success, this team has the game under lock and key.

Much like Aaron Rodgers, Wilson bears the heavy burden of carrying a slightly sub-par team. Some would argue he is the only way for Seattle to win, as their defense is severely lacking. With talented receivers like Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf, Wilson has been able to conduct miraculous offensive plays. The man has a track record one could only dream about, with nine seasons of rock-solid, game-winning performances under his belt. He has won basically every single award he could have dreamed of.

The only one that remains unconquered is the coveted title of MVP. This is his year, and the whole world is seeing a titan at his peak performance. One could easily argue that he's currently the best player in the NFL. As one of the most consistent, stable, and dominant players in recent memory, Russell Wilson is possibly the strongest candidate for the NFL's Most Valuable Player award, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
