Super Bowl is once again expected to set new records for total wagering

Super Bowl LIX (59) is just around the corner and one record that is almost certain to be broken is the amount of money that will be wagered on the game.

The American Gaming Association expects last year's record mark of $1.25 billion in the United States to be eclipsed by new record of $1.39 billion. For the first time ever, the legal amount wagered in New York is expected to exceed the legal amount wagered in Nevada.
Sports wagering, as a whole, is gaining more and more participation from the public. In recent years, the access to live betting has created millions of new players.

For single events, the Super Bowl is king when it comes to wagering.

This year, The Philadelphia Eagles are out to avenge their 38-35 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII (57) and, in doing so, prevent Kansas City from becoming the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls. The game takes place thus Sunday night in New Orleans, beginning at 6:30.

Live betting is what occurs after the game has begun. While in-game betting has become a huge new revenue stream in football, it has also made an impact on wagering on golf, particularly the LIV tour where the rounds begin with a 'shotgun' start and the entire field is done for the day in a much shorter period of time.

A 'shotgun' start means that players are spread among all 18 holes at the start of the round.  As the action unfolds, you can bet the adjusted odds of a player winning the tournament, leading after the round, or making a birdie on the current hole.

For the Super Bowl, you can have a similar set of wagering options with the menu including such items as basic as the score at the end of each quarter or half, the number of quarterback sacks by a single player, how many rushing yards will be gained by Saquon Barkley and whether or not he will not get the football on the next play to convert a first down or score a touchdown.

Don't be surprised if the options expand to the odds of a streaker, protester, cat or squirrel interrupting play.

If you are not one of those people who has experienced in-play betting, it is important to   visit your favorite apps store now and download the latest version of one of the more popular betting apps. Virtually all of the sportsbook apps offer a bonus for your initial activation and usage of an account.

Currently, the Chiefs are 1.5-point favorites to win the Super Bowl while the Congrove Computer Rankings at CollegeFootballPoll.com favor the Eagles by 3.12 points.

A sample of current prop bets might offer odds on any player other than the quarterback completing a touchdown pass, or a kicker booting a 65-yard field goal, or a score off a pick-six, fumble return, a kickoff return, or a punt return.

Will the opening kickoff be returned for a touchdown? What will be the color of the first bucket of Gatorade dumped in celebration?

Will the game end in a score that has never been seen before in NFL history? This is referred to as a scorigami, which was last seen in a Super Bowl when the Seattle Seahawks routed the Denver Broncos 43-8 in Super Bowl XLVIII (48). The 35-point difference ties as the 3rd-largest win with the Dallas Cowboys' 52-17 win over the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXVII (27).

The widest margin of victory is also held by the Broncos on the losing end of a 55-10 thumping that was administered by the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 24. That particular win is also noted for being the only time the same team won back-to-back Super Bowls with two different head coaches. The 49ers had won the previous year in the final season for Bill Walsh and repeated with George Seifert at the helm. San Francisco's 55 points still stands as a Super Bowl record for the most points scored by one team.

Incidentally, the 1985 Chicago Bears have the second-largest winning margin with their 46-10 trouncing of the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 20.

Over-all, twenty-three Super Bowls have been won by one score (8 points) or less, and the last three Super Bowls are numbers 2, 3 and 4 on the list of closest outcomes with a trio of 3-point decisions. Those include the Super Bowl 57 win by Kansas City over Philadelphia (as mentioned earlier), last year's 25-22 overtime win by the Chiefs or the 49ers, and the Super Bowl LVI (56) finish of the Los Angeles Rams over the Cincinnati Bengals by a 23-20 final.

In fact, nine of the previous fifty-eight Super Bowls have been decided by exactly 3 points. Eight of those have taken place since 2002.

Whatever you do with your wagering on this Sunday's big game, remember to keep within a budget and never gamble more than you can afford to lose.
