Super 16 Poll: Top 3 Unchanged, But Major Shake-up from 4 thru 16

November 24, 2024 by FWAA, NFF, CollegeFootballPoll.com

The past week's action saw six teams in last week's Super 16 poll go down to defeat so a major shakeup was expected, but the top 3 are all safe.

Voters in the Super 16 Poll consist of FWAA writers and members of the College Football Hall of Fame who were selected to create a geographically balanced perspective. CollegeFootballPoll.com's Dave Congrove has been on the voting panel since the September 24, 2017 poll. He is one of the 52 voters who put Oregon at No. 1.

Oregon repeats at No.1 this week, picking up 52 of 54 first-place votes to to top the chart for the sixth consecutive week.. The Ducks, who were idle, are the first team outside of the SEC since Ohio State in 2015 to hold the No. 1 spot in the poll for at least six consecutive weeks.

The No. 2 and No. 3 spots remain unchanged with Ohio State 2nd and Texas 3rd.

Indiana fell five spots to No. 9 after a 23-point road loss at Ohio State. Penn State advanced one spot to No. 4 by virtue of the Hoosiers loss.

Alabama and Ole Miss remained in the poll despite suffering road losses. The Crimson Tide fell seven spots to No. 13 after a 21-point loss at Oklahoma while the Rebels fell six slots to No. 15 due to a 7-point loss at Florida.

BYU, Texas A&M and Colorado fell out of the poll completely after losing in Week 13. They were replaced by Clemson, Arizona State and South Carolina, claiming No. 12, 14 and 16, respectively.

The No. 14 ranking for Arizona State marks the first appearance in the poll for the Sun Devils since holding the No. 16 ranking on Aug. 13, 2015. The No. 16 ranking for the Gamecocks represents their first appearance in the poll since being ranked No. 14 on Sept. 22, 2014.

The SEC leads all conferences with six teams. The Big Ten has four, the ACC has three, the Big 12, the Mountain West Conference and FBS Independents have one each.
