Oregon ascended to the top spot in the poll following previously top-ranked Texas' 30-15 home loss to Georgia on Saturday night. This is the second time Oregon has been ranked No. 1 in the FWAA-NFF Super 16 Poll, but the first time in a decade with their last No. 1 appearance occurring on Sept. 29, 2014. The Ducks, buoyed by their defeat of Ohio State a week ago, had moved up to No. 2 and then beat Purdue, 35-0, on Friday night on the road.
Meanwhile, Texas dropped to No. 5 after its loss at home to Georgia, and the 'Dawgs moved up to No. 2.
The other big development in the SEC was Tennessee's 24-17 victory over then No. 7 Alabama in Knoxville. The victory over the Crimson Tide lifted the Vols to No. 7, where Alabama was last week. The Crimson Tide dropped all the way to No. 15, its lowest ranking in the history of the poll. (Alabama has been in every poll since its inception.)
No other team in the poll lost, and three teams - Ohio State, Penn State and Ole Miss - were idle. As a result, the same 16 teams were ranked from a week ago, albeit in different order.
The SEC leads all conferences with seven teams, followed by the Big Ten with four, the ACC and Big 12 with two each, and the independents with Notre Dame.
Voters in the Super 16 Poll consist of FWAA writers and members of the College Football Hall of Fame who were selected to create a geographically balanced perspective.
CollegeFootballPoll.com's Dave Congrove has been on the voting panel since the September 24, 2017 poll. He is one of the 44 voters who put Oregon at No. 1. The other 10 first-place votes all went to Georgia.

The first regular season poll will be released on Tuesday, September 3 (to account for Labor Day games), and the final poll will be released Sunday, December 8. The poll utilizes a computer program designed by Sports Systems to compile the rankings and the Cody Kellner Points Index to publish the individual votes.
