Super 16 Poll: Oregon Leads Texas and Penn State in Top 3 in Penultimate Survey

December 1, 2024 by FWAA, NFF, CollegeFootballPoll.com

Oregon picked up 53 of 54 first-place votes and remains No. 1 in the Super 16 Poll of FWAA writers and members of the College Football Hall of Fame. Texas received the other.

This is Oregon's seventh consecutive week at No. 1 as the Ducks completed an undefeated regular season with a 49-21 win at home over Washington. The Ducks are the first team outside of the SEC since Ohio State in 2015 to hold the No. 1 spot in the poll for at least seven consecutive weeks.

Ohio State fell five spots to No. 7 after suffering a 3-point loss to Michigan at home. Texas moved up one spot to No. 2 after defeating Texas A&M 17-7 in College Station.

Penn State, Notre Dame and Georgia all advanced one spot, to land at No. 3, 4 and 5, respectively. Tennessee gained two places, moving from No. 8 to No. 6 as did SMU, which jumped from No. 10 to No. 8, and Alabama, going from No. 13 to No. 11.

Boise State advanced one spot to No. 10 after a 34-18 win over Oregon State at home, marking the highest ranking for the Broncos in the history of this poll. Miami (FL) fell five spots to No. 12 after a four-point loss to Syracuse on the road.

Clemson fell out of the poll completely after losing to South Carolina 14-17 at home and was replaced by Iowa State, which claimed the No. 16 ranking. The South Carolina win advanced the Gamecocks from No. 16 to No. 14.

The SEC leads all conferences with six teams. The Big Ten has four, followed by the ACC and Big 12 with two each while the Mountain West and Independents have one apiece.
