Oregon continued its stay at No. 1 for a fourth straight week with a relatively easy 39-18 home victory over Maryland, but previously No. 2 Georgia and No. 4 Miami, Fl. both suffered road defeats on Saturday and took tumbles in the poll.
Georgia lost for the second time this season, 28-10, at Ole Miss, and the Hurricanes dropped a 28-23 decision at Georgia Tech for their first loss of the season. As a result, the Bulldogs fell to 11, and the Hurricanes dropped to 12.
LSU fell 42-13 at home to Alabama and got booted from the poll. Another set of Tigers - the ones for Clemson - moved into the poll at No. 16.
The reset at the top of the poll this week found Ohio State at No. 2, Texas at No. 3 and unbeaten Indiana at No. 4 after its 20-15 home win over Michigan. Rounding out the top 10 are Tennessee, Penn State, BYU, Alabama, Notre Dame and Ole Miss. Both Indiana at No.4, and BYU at No. 7, has their highest ranking in the history of the poll.
The SEC and Big Ten dominate the poll. The Big Ten has four of the top six teams in the poll - Oregon, Ohio State, Indiana and Penn State. The SEC has the most teams with six. The ACC has three, while the Independents, Big 12 and Mountain West each have a single representative
Voters in the Super 16 Poll consist of FWAA writers and members of the College Football Hall of Fame who were selected to create a geographically balanced perspective.
CollegeFootballPoll.com's Dave Congrove has been on the voting panel since the September 24, 2017 poll. He is one of the 53 voters who put Oregon at No. 1 while one voted Ohio State No. 1.
Oregon and Ohio State remain 1-2 in his ranking. He dropped Miami from 3 to 9, and Georgia from 4 to 11, after the 'Canes lost 28-23 at Georgia Tech and the Bulldogs were punished 28-10 at Ole Miss. Iowa State also lost and he moved the Cyclones out of the top 16 after having them at No. 14 a week ago. Texas A&M moves in at No. 16.
