With an impressive road victory at Mississippi State, top-ranked Georgia secured a spot in the SEC title game and remained No.1 in the poll for a sixth straight week. In Atlanta's SEC title game, the Bulldogs will meet a resurgent LSU, which wrapped up the SEC West Division title with a close victory at Arkansas.
The top five teams in the poll remained in place from a week ago, with Ohio State, Michigan, TCU and Tennessee following the Bulldogs who are seeking a second straight national title. LSU moved up to No. 6 after dispatching the Razorbacks.
A panel of 52 FWAA writers and College Football Hall of Famers vote in the poll. Voters were selected to create a balanced geographical perspective and include CollegeFootballPoll.com's Dave Congrove.
Previously No. 6 Oregon dropped seven spots to No. 13 after falling to Washington in Eugene. The Huskies are back in the poll for the first time since early in the season at No. 16. UCLA fell six spots to No. 15 after losing a home game to Arizona. Tulane dropped out of the poll after losing to UCF.
The Pac-12 and SEC led all conferences with five teams each in the poll. The Big Ten had three teams, the ACC two and the Big 12 one.
Congrove's ballot had his top five unchanged with Georgia occupying the top spot, followed by TCU, Ohio State and Michigan and Tennessee. He place Clemson at No. 6, Alabama 7th, and jumped North Carolina from 13th to 8th. USC and Utah round out his top ten. The rest of his top 16, in order, is LSU, Penn State, Oregon, UCLA, Ole Miss and Washington.
Congrove dropped NC State (was 16) and Washington gained entry.
