So far, you don't hear much noise about the Jacksonville Jaguars and their prospects to improve on their 2024 results that saw them join the Raiders and Patriots as 4-13 teams.
An entirely new Jacksonville staff - from GM to head coach and both coordinators, are tasked with picking 5th in this year's draft. The Jags are expected to select Michigan defensive lineman Mason Graham. It sounds like a good place to start for a defense that ranked next-to-last over-all.
The offense also needs vast improvement after ranking 25th over-all in 2024, with ranks of 24th passing and 25th rushing.
Second-year man, Tank Bigsby, led the team in rushing with 766 yards, ahead or Travis Etienne's 558. Rookie Brian Thomas, Jr. topped all receivers with 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns. Receiver Christian Kirk was traded away to Houston for a 7th-round pick in 2026, and released two-time pro bowler tight end Evan Engram who suffered a season-ending collar-bone injury halfway through the season. Other offseason Jacksonville moves include adding receiver Dyami Brown on a one-year deal. Gabe Davis remains after enduring a torn meniscus last year.
2024 Record: 4-13 regular season, 3-3 AFC South (T-2nd place), 4-8 vs. AFC, 0-5 vs. NFC
Odds to win 2025 Super Bowl: +8000, No. 25 of all 32 teams
Odds to Win AFC South: +290, No. 2 of 4
General Manager: James Gladstone (2025)
Head Coach: Liam Coen (2025)
Offensive Coordinator: Grant Udinski (2025)
Defensive Coordinator: Anthony Campanile (2025)
James Gladstone left the only franchise he had worked for since signing on as a senior assistant to the GM with the LA Rams in 2016. He spent the last six seasons overseeing scouting. At age 34, Jacksonville made him the youngest GM in the NFL when they announced the new hire on February 21 of this year, nearly a full month after the team had secured Liam Coen as the new head coach.
The 39-year-old Coen moved up I-4 and I-95 on January 24 after working as the offensive coordinator last year in Tampa. He previously did the same with Kentucky in college (2021 and 2023), and the Rams (2022). He has an extensive background working with quarterbacks and coordinating the passing game, so it will be interesting to see what effect he has on Trevor Lawrence who's making $55 million a year to at least sniff playoffs and titles. The deal was secured in the 2024 offseason, before the 4-13 debacle that brought Lawrence's less-than-stellar record as a starting QB to 22-38. His playoff record is stalled at 1-1.
Grant Udinksi was named on February 5 as the offensive coordinator while Anthony Campanile was tapped as the defensive coordinator on January 30. Udkinski is 29 while Campanile is the old man of the group of 42. Udinski has been with Minnesota since 2022 and was the assistant OC in 2024. Campanile's experience was all at the collegiate level from 2012 through 2019 after serving six seasons at high school nation power Don Bosco Prep in Bergen County, New Jersey. Last year, Campanile was the linebackers coach and running game coordinator for Green Bay.
It's a strange order of transformation - from head coach, OC and DC to finally, GM. But regardless of how they put together a pretty talented group in key positions, Jaguar fans are just hoping it produces more wins in one of the NFL's smallest markets.
The Jaguars have made the payoffs just 4 times in the 2000's and only twice in the last 3ught seasons. But in 2017, the team went 10-6 and, after qualifying as a Wild Card, captured two playoff victories before falling 24-20 at Kansas City in the AFC Championship game.
In 2022, the Jags again found themselves victims of Kansas City, but this time they lost 27-20 in the divisional round after ending the Chargers on Wild Card weekend.
