A highly-anticipated battle has been cancelled, but another one has been added. Both involve Coastal Carolina.
There's no doubt that Liberty (9-1) at Coastal Carolina (9-0) would have been an interesting game to watch, but the Flames had to back out for Covid issues so we get a game that may be even more interesting - BYU (9-0) at Coastal Carolina.
Here are all the changes that have been made to this week's scheduled.
LOCATION CHANGED:
It was announced on Tuesday night that the Hawaii at San Jose State game on Saturday is now a San Jose State at Hawaii game. The game could not be played in San Jose due to Covid lockdown measures that have forced the NFL's San Francisco 49ers to flee to Arizona. Stanford has already left for the Seattle area where the Cardinal will play Washington this week, and next week's home game vs Oregon State has been moved to Corvallis.
OPPONENT CHANGED:
1) On-going Covid issues at Florida State will prevent the Seminoles from traveling to Duke for this week's scheduled contest, so Miami will play at Duke instead. To make that happen, the Miami at Wake Forest game had to be postponed but will be rescheduled - if all goes well.
2) Western Kentucky was suppose to play at Charlotte on Tuesday to wrap up week 13, but that game was called off on Monday. Later, Charlotte's scheduled home game this Saturday against FIU was canceled and Western Kentucky was rescheduled as Charlotte's opponent for this Sunday in Charlotte.
3) Coastal Carolina was supposed to welcome Liberty, but the Flames had to back out. Now, BYU has been scheduled to travel to Conway, SC for a battle of unbeatens.
CANCELED:
Northwestern at Minnesota due to Covid issues within the Gophers' program. That makes Northwestern the west division champs of the Big Ten as the Wildcats have already completed the requisite number of games to qualify (6) and are 5-1 in those games. As they can finish no worse than 5-2 if they play, and lose, to Illinois next week - and since they own the tie-breaker over the closest challenger (Iowa, 4-2) - the Wildcats are locked-in and will play either Ohio State or Indiana.
Maryland-Michigan due to Covid issues within the Wolverines' program.
Boise State-UNLV has been canceled and will not be rescheduled. Last weekend's Broncos' game was canceled 5 hours before kickoff due to issues within the BSU program. It was revealed in this week's cancellation notice if the action was taken for the same reason.
Southern Miss-UTEP has been called off due to on-going problems within the Miners' program which has suspended all team activities.
UAB at Middle Tennessee scheduled for this Sunday afternoon has now been cancelled due to issues within the MTSU program.
Kent State at Miami (O) has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled.
Buffalo at Ohio been cancelled and will not be rescheduled.
As noted above, FIU at Charlotte is canceled and Charlotte will instead host Western Kentucky. The 49ers haven't played since Halloween, but the Hilltoppers have had zero cancellations and only one postponement. Sunday's game makes up the one postponement.
Liberty at Coastal Carolina. Liberty hosting BYU instead.
Houston at SMU. Covid issues at SMU led to quarantine of numerous players including an entire position group. It was the second attempt to play this game as it was originally scheduled for November 21. This was SMU's last scheduled game so it's likely the Mustangs (7-3, 4-3 American) have completed their season. Houston hasn't played since November 14.
DATE CHANGED:
The Washington State-USC game, originally slated for Friday, has been moved to Sunday with a 3:00 p.m. ET kick-off.
The Vanderbilt-Georgia game scheduled for this Saturday has been moved to December 19, assuming the Bulldogs aren't the SEC East champions.
