Maxwell Football Club Director, Mark Wolpert, announced that Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley has been selected as the winner of the 66th Bert Bell Professional Player of the Year Award, and that Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott has been chosen as the winner of the 36th Greasy Neale Professional Coach of the Year Award.

CollegeFootballPoll.com's Dave Congrove is a member of the Maxwell Football Club and a voter for both awards. His top vote went to Saquon Barkley for player of the year, and Dan Cambell (Detroit) for Coach of the Year.

Barkley put together a phenomenal 2024 campaign, rushing for 2005 yards and 13 touchdowns in 16 games. He added 33 catches for 278 yards and 2 touchdowns through the air while leading Philadelphia to a 14-3 record and NFC East championship. Barkley rushed for over 100 yards 11 times during the 2024 season and is the first Eagles running back to break the 2000-yard barrier in a season. He was honored as the NFC Offensive Player of the Week 4 times this season and also garnered NFC Player of the Month recognition in November. Barkley and the Eagles host the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday in the NFC Divisional round of the playoffs.

McDermott led the Bills to a 13-4 regular season mark and a 5th straight AFC East championship. Buffalo’s current status as one of the NFL’s top teams is impressive given its national preseason expectations, and while several parties deserve significant credit for its 9-2 start, McDermott is perhaps at the top of the list. Despite an array or injuries resulting in the loss of key players the Bills have continued to pile up wins, which is a credit to the culture McDermott has built over the past eight seasons. The Bills put their undefeated home record on the line as they take on the Baltimore Ravens this Sunday.

The formal presentation of the Bert Bell and Greasy Neale Awards will be held on Friday March 14, 2025 at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, Georgia. The Maxwell Football Club will also be presenting its other national awards from high school through the professional ranks at the event.
