Playoff Committee Reveals Third Rankings of 2023

The third of six weekly rankings have been released by the College Football Playoff Committee. Subsequent rankings will be released at 7 p.m. each Tuesday on November 21 and 28, followed by the final rankings on Selection Sunday, December 3 at Noon. (All times eastern).

The biggest move this week saw the committee jump two-time defending national-champion Georgia over Ohio State, while Nos. 3 through 8 stayed the same. Missouri jumped from 14th to 9th, while Louisville moved up one spot to round out the Top 10.

Tulane, at No. 24, is the highest-ranked team from a non-Autonomy conference and, as such, is in position to garner a second straight New Year's Six bowl bid. The term "non-Autonomy" relates to five conferences - American, CUSA, MAC, MWC and Sun Belt. The term also includes 3 of the 4 independents - Army, UConn and UMass. Though Notre Dame is also an independent, it is considered part of the Autonomy conferences (ACC, B1G, Big 12, PAC-12 and SEC).

The College Football Playoff matches the No. 1 ranked team vs. No. 4, and No. 2 vs. No. 3 in semifinal games that rotate annually among six bowl games – the Goodyear Cotton Bowl, Vrbo Fiesta Bowl, Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, Capital One Orange Bowl, Allstate Sugar Bowl and Rose Bowl Game presented by Prudential. This season's Playoff Semifinals will take place Monday, January 1, 2024, at the Rose Bowl Game presented by Prudential and Allstate Sugar Bowl. The College Football Playoff National Championship will be Monday, January 8, 2024, at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
