The College Football Playoff Committee released its first set of rankings for 2019 on Tuesday night and the top two echo the Congrove Computer Rankings on CollegeFootballPoll.com with Ohio State in the top spot and LSU at No. 2.
The committee puts Alabama at 3 and Penn State at 4 with Clemson in 5th. The computer has Clemson 3, Alabama 4 and Penn State 5.
Whether it was intentional or not, the initial rankings set up a playoff within the playoff as No. 2 LSU plays at No. 3 Alabama this week, and No. 1 Ohio State hosts No. 4 Penn State on November 23. That's assuming Penn State doesn't fall this week at Minnesota. The Golden Gophers have more food for fodder with a woeful No. 17 ranking for an undefeated team in a Power 5 conference. Baylor, which is also one of just 7 remaining unbeaten teams, is at No. 12.
