Playoff Committee Penalizes Florida State For Injuries to Starting QB in a Travis(ty) of Justice

December 3, 2023 by CollegeFootballPlayoff.com and CollegeFootballPoll.com Staff

The final rankings have been released by the committee and the College Football Playoff field is set.

The committee appears to have penalized undefeated Florida State for the loss of Jordan Travis for a leg injury and Tate Rodemaker to a concussion, even though the team went 3-0 without Travis, and 1-0 without Rodemaker. You have to remember they were trailing North Alabama 13-0 when Travis was injured and they won 58-13. Rodemaker QB'd the win over Florida, and freshman Brock Glenn QB'd the win over Louisville while the defense put the hammer down and the running game secured the win.

We were told we needed the playoff because games matter and it should be decided on the field. Now, the 'Noles become the first unbeaten team from a power 5 conference to be omitted from the Final Four.

Michigan and Washington are 1-2, as expected, while Texas was surprise at No. 3, and Alabama was a shocker at No. 4.

The SEC-eccentric committee effectively just handed a death sentence to the ACC as we know it, as Florida State and Clemson are likely to be more feverish in their attempt to lead an exodus to the SEC and Big Ten.

All four playoff teams will be members of either the Big Ten or SEC next year, with Washington headed to the Big Ten and Texas to the SEC.

Liberty (13-0) out-ranked SMU (11-2) by1 spot, 23 to 24, to land the automatic Group of Five bid to a New Year's Six bowl game. The Flames will play Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl.
