Surprisingly, the woeful New York Giants did not rank last in the final 2024-25 NFL Congrove Computer Rankings as the Tennessee Titans took that inefficacious honor. We say it's surprising because the Giants had the worst record within its own conference (1-11) among all 32 teams, and was one of only two teams that failed to capture a single game against a divisional opponent with the Las Vegas Raiders (AFC West) being the other.

The Giants, Titans and Cleveland Browns all went 3-14 over-all.

A side note here is that the Green Bay Packers went just 1-5 in divisional play and 5-6 against NFC foes, yet still made the playoffs.

In the offseason, the front office knew it would need to find a quarterback to improve the club now, or utilize the 2025 NFL draft to find their quarterback of the near future. The latter would mean signing a quarterback who could help mentor and develop the draft pick, and be willing to do so.

Apparently, Jameis Winston is their guy. The franchise signed Jameis to a two-year, $8 million deal that could be $16 million with incentives. They only made that move after their plan A attempt failed which was to sign Matthew Stafford to a two-year deal that was reportedly worth up to $100 million - and their first Plan B move also failed which was to sign Aaron Rodgers for a couple of years.

Obviously, signing Stafford would have allowed the Giants to look focus on their other needs - primarily the offensive line and entire defense.

General Manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll will now likely focus on landing Shedeur Sanders at quarterback with their number 3 over-all pick.

Schoen became the GM on January 21, 2022 and hired Daboll a week later. Mike Kafka was brought in as offensive coordinator six days after Daboll was onboard.

The only more recent shake-up among the top coaches was the hiring of Shane Bowen as defensive coordinator on February 6, 2024.

It is important to recall that Daboll was the AP NFL Coach of the Year in 2022 when his first Giants team managed to go 9-7-1 in the regular season and defeat the Minnesota Vikings in the wild card round before the Philadelphia Eagles issued a 38-7 knockout blow in the divisional round.

Fresher on the minds of frustrated fans is that they are 9-26 since that wild card playoff victory, and among their biggest missteps was watching Saquon Barkley go unsigned at running back when they had two seasons to strike a deal. Instead, they wasted $160 million on Daniel Jones at QB. Meanwhile, Barkley goes to the Eagles and wins a Super Bowl while leading the NFL in rushing.

Currently, the handicappers and bettors see no improvement for 2025 as they hold the worst odds for winning the division, let alone the Super Bowl. Still, this is only March and a lot can happen between the draft at the end of April and the start of the new season in September.

It's out of the hands of the Giants fans. All they can do is hope.
