NFL Rankings: Detroit Replaces Kansas City at No. 1

November 21, 2024 by CollegeFootballPoll.com Staff

Kansas City saw its 15-game winning streak come to an end in Buffalo last Sunday as the Bills pulled away for a 30-21 win. They do not, however, move up from the No. 3 spot in the Power Rankings of all 32 teams in the NFL Congrove Computer Rankings at CollegeFootballPoll.com. But the win did elevate the Detroit Lions into 1st place and knocked the Chiefs down to No. 2

Now, get ready for a week 12 slate that will feature the third HarBowl, a battle between Jim Harbaugh's LA Chargers and John's Baltimore Ravens. John, the older brother by 15 months, is 2-0 in previous head-to-head matchups with his brother. Both previous meetings came when Jim was the head coach at San Francisco, with John's Ravens winning 16-6 in a 2011 regular season game, and 34-31 in Super Bowl 47 in 2013 (2012 season).

This time, even though the game is at SoFi Stadium, FanDuel.com has Baltimore favored by 3 In HarBowl 3. The computer agrees with the spread, favoring the Ravens by 3.87.

No. 1 Detroit, winners of 8 in-a-row, is coming off a 52-6 embarrassment of Jacksonville. This week, the Lions head to Indianapolis as a 7.5-point favorite over the Colts.

Speaking of dumpster fires (aka, Jacksonville), the Cowboys were a topic of conversation yesterday on "Up and Adams" as Rob Gronkowski joined Kay Adams to discuss the potential of Coach Prime and Shedeur Sanders going to Dallas.

It's hard to believe now that Dallas was the No.1 team in the week 2 rankings after a 33-17 win at Cleveland. Now, the Cowboys are ranked possibly too high at No. 24 as one of nine teams that have three or fewer wins (3-7). This week, the Cowboys go to Washington as 10.5-point betting underdogs and 4.75-point dogs by the computer.

Behind the Lions, Chiefs and Bills at 1, 2 and 3, are an Eagles team that has steadily seen their stock rise since sinking to a low of No. 17 in week 5. Philadelphia has moved from 17 to 15 to 11 to 8 to 5, 5, 4 and 4 as the Eagles have reeled off 6 straight wins.

Minnesota is No. 6, followed by fellow NFC North member Green Bay at No. 7.

The 8th and 9th spots are where we get to the Ravens and Chargers. Jim's team has risen from 18th during its winning streak that was extended to four games with this past Sunday night's 34-27 win over Cincinnati. That game saw the Chargers blow all of a 27-6 third quarter lead as the Bengals tied it at 27 with 12:21 to play. Both teams spent the next 11 minutes and 36 seconds seemingly trying not to win until the Chargers ignited for a 4-play, 84-yard drive and a 34-27 lead with 18 seconds left on J.K. Robbins' 29-yard run when it looked like they were just trying to give the kicker a better angle for a walk-off field goal attempt.

Meanwhile, Baltimore fell earlier in the day at the Steelers, 18-16, as Lamar Jackson was held to a 48.4% pass completion day with 207 yards, a TD and a pick. The touchdown pass was a 16-yarder to Zay Flowers with 1:07 left in the game, but the 2-point conversion attempt failed and the Steelers converted a third down to take a knee for two plays and the win.

The other end of the rankings is where we find the Jaguars with the dubious honor of being ranked 32nd out of 32 teams, unseating the NY Giants.

This week's slate contains just 13 games with six teams grabbing a bye week - Atlanta, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Jacksonville, New Orleans and the Jets.

It gets underway on Thursday night with Pittsburgh at Cleveland.
