Spring training gets underway today for most of the 2025 Major League Baseball teams, and teams take to the field later this week for the opening games of the official training schedule.
The Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers have the honors of opening the slate on Thursday at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona. The two teams will move to Sloan Park in Mesa for a second game on Friday.
One of the biggest changes this year is the Athletics leaving Oakland to play their 2025 home slate in Sacramento.
After the Dodgers claimed the 2024 World Series title over the New York Yankees, four games to one, the 2025 World Series odds at FanDuel.com favored a rematch between the defending champion Dodgers (+400) and the New York Yankees (+750). As of today, the Dodgers (+250) are favored over the Yankees (+700).
Leading the way on the odds board for 2025 MLB Player of the Year odds are 2024 American League winner Aaron Judge for the Yankees, while Shohei Ohtani is favored to win his second straight National League MVP award and third straight league MVP overall as he also captured the 2023 American League award.
As for the Cubs, they check in with the 12th-best odds (+3000).
Among the teams making a huge jump are the Boston Red Sox who have moved from 17th to 9th since last November. The Baltimore Orioles (American) and the Atlanta Braves (National) hold the second-best odds in their respective leagues.
Following the Cubs and Dodgers on Thursday, eight other teams will open their Spring slates on Friday.
The Tampa Bay Rays will, ironically, ride up I-75 from Port Charlotte to take on the Yankees at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa in the lone Grapefruit League game, while the other three games all take place in the Cactus League in Arizona.
The Texas Rangers face the Kansas City Royals where both teams train in Surprise, the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks will take go at it in Scottsdale at Salt River Fields, and the San Diego Padres will play host to the Seattle Mariners at the Peoria Sports Complex.
In an exhibition game, the Boston Red Sox will face the Northeastern Huskies at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Florida on Friday.
