Mike Leach on Thursday (January 9) was announced as the new head football coach of Mississippi State.
Leach leaves Washington State after a 6-7 season, his worst in Pullman since 2014. In all, Leach spent 8 years with the Cougars who hired him 3 years after he had been fired by Texas Tech.
Leach has an over-all career record of 139-90.
He was 84-43 in 10 seasons with the Red Raiders where his team was co-champs of the conference in his next-to-last season (2008), but he was just 47-33 in Big 12 play.
With the Cougars, Leach compiled an over-all record of 55-47 and had just a single co-divisional title in his next-to-last season (2018). His teams were 36-36 in PAC-12 play.
Washington State did not immediately name an interim head coach as the university expected most of Leach's top assistants to go with him to MSU.
