Types of bets on American Football

Handicaps or betting lines or point spread

Over unders

This type of betting is similar to handicaps. The only difference is that once the bookmaker sets the margin, you bet either for or against the margin. The margin set is the total for the two teams.  The difference between this type of betting and point spread is that the latter’s margin is a 50/50 chance of the two teams; one being at an advantage and the other at a disadvantage. With over unders, on the other hand, the margin set is the total of the two teams.

Money lines

Money lines are the easiest of American betting where you only have to bet pertaining to the winner overtimes. Since handicaps and over unders are not used here, you only get to bet on the final winner and that’s it. Since the outcome of such a game is mostly based on the talent and skill of the two teams, the odds for the favourite team come at a premium because they have a slim possibility of losing. On the other hand, betting on the low team comes with a greater reward since it’s a riskier chance.

Mix strategy

Here you can mix more than one betting strategy as embraced by most people. The most common mixed strategy is point spreads and money lines.
