As we approach the halfway point of the 2022 season, here's a look back at the results of every game played in the 8-year history of the College Football Playoff.
Over those 8 years, as many as 32 different could have conceivably participated. Instead, it has been a rather closed group with only 13 different teams being invited and 4 teams combining to monopolize 21 of the 32 invitations.
A couple of noteworthy facts:
- only 6 different schools have ever won a single playoff game
- only 2 number one seeds have ever won the championship - LSU in 2019 and Alabama in 2020

NOTE: Major college football said goodbye to the BCS after the 2013 season in favor of a College Football Playoff system. The CFP Playoff final 4 is selected by a panel of 13 members (reduced to 12 in 2014 and 2015 due to illness) who release weekly rankings in the back-half of the season, and ultimately seed the final 4 playoff teams. That same panel determines which teams will play in all of the New Year's Six bowls - Cotton, Fiesta, Orange, Peach, Rose and Sugar. |
