Happy Super Bowl Day! Eagles-Chiefs Kickoff Two Hours Away

February 9, 2025 by CollegeFootballPoll.com Staff

Today and tomorrow should both be national holidays. Super Bowl Sunday just feels like one. The morning after needs to be one because a ton of people will be waking up feeling like they were onboard the Poseidon and won't show up for work.

Tonight's game is set to kick off off at 6:30 p.m. (eastern time) on FOX and streaming free on Tubi. It ties Miami for the city with the most  times playing host to the NFL's big event with 12 each. It's the 9th time at the Louisiana Superdome after Tulane Stadium hosted the first three Super Bowls in the Crescent City between 1969 and 1974 seasons.

As pretty much everyone knows by now, Super Bowl LIX is a rematch of Super Bowl LVII, which was won by a count of 38-35 by the Chiefs. Harrison Butker kicked the game-winning field goal with 8 seconds remaining to complete the comeback from a 24-14 halftime deficit.

Wagering will be commonplace and there are a number of ways beyond simple game odds and moneyline. When considering the inclusion of a Super Bowl parlay, keep in mind that under-the-radar players often excel in these games.

Check out this Super Bowl wager suggestion from Meghan Payton at FanDuel.com. She notes that Dallas Goedert is the Eagles' playoff leader in receiving yards and receptions and puts him at Leg 1 of a parlay that includes DeVonta Smith (also with the Eagles, of course) and Kansas City running back Samaje Perine.

Since 2008, ten Super Bowls have been decided by 3 points or less.  That's quite different from the games played before that time when it seemed like they would all become tremendous blowouts.

The 1989 season ended with San Francisco destroying Denver 55-10. That followed several lopsided games in the 1980's that also saw the Mike Ditka-coached Chicago Bears team, famous for its Super Bowl Shuffle, dance all over New England, 46-10. The decade also witnessed the Raiders trounce the Redskins 38-9, the 49ers wallop the Dolphins 38-16 in Dan Marino's only Super Bowl appearance, and the Redskins return to put their own boot stomping on Denver, 42-10.

In fact, the very first Super Bowl saw Kansas City get crushed by Vince Lombardi's dominant Packers of the era, bowing 35-10 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on January 15, 1967. But the Chiefs returned to the big game four years later and stunned the Minnesota Vikings by winning 23-7 in the first Super Bowl played in New Orleans.

Kansas City didn't get another crack at the NFL's world title until the 2019 season when Patrick Mahomes, in just his second year as the starting quarterback, guided the Chiefs to a 31-20 win over San Francisco in Miami. Mahomes became the youngest QB to win a Super Bowl as he took home MVP honors.

Now, he's looking for a three-peat and a fourth title in the last six seasons as Kansas City makes its fifth Super Bowl appearance in that span, bowing only to the Tom Brady-led Tampa Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV. The 56th edition was the last time the Chiefs were absent.

Philadelphia hopes to not play the role of victim a second time and are expected to try to jump on the back of another performance from Saquon Barkley who is only 30 yards shy of the all-time single season NFL rushing record (playoffs included) set by Terrell Davis of Denver in the 1987 season with 2,476.

The Eagles are looking for their first Super Bowl win since beating the Brady-led Patriots 41-33 to cap the 2017 season. It avenged a 24-21 loss to New England 13 years earlier and remains the franchise's only Championship game win. Their only other appearance was a 27-10 loss to the Raiders to end the 1980 season.
