Georgia picked up 51-of-52 first-place votes and remained No. 1 for the ninth consecutive week after defeating LSU in the SEC Championship. Michigan remained No. 2 after winning the Big Ten Championship against Purdue and received the other first-place vote.
TCU dropped one spot to No. 4 after its 31-28 overtime loss to Kansas State in the Big 12 Championship, while Ohio State was idle on conference championship weekend and benefited from TCU's loss by moving up two spots to claim the No. 3 ranking. Kansas State moved up two spots to No. 9 after the upset victory against the Horned Frogs.
Last week's No. 4 team, USC, fell seven spots to No. 11 after its loss to Utah in the Pac-12 Championship. Utah's upset victory over the Trojans moved the Utes up five spots to the No. 7 ranking. Clemson remained No. 10 after winning the ACC title against North Carolina.
UCLA dropped out of the poll completely after being idle. Tulane returned to the poll for the second time in school history after its win vs. UCF in the American Athletic Championship, claiming No. 14. LSU fell to No. 15 after losing to Georgia.
The SEC and Pac-12 led all conferences with four teams each, followed by the Big Ten with three, the ACC and Big 12 Big with two, the American Athletic Conference with one.
A panel of 52 FWAA writers and College Football Hall of Famers vote in the poll. Voters were selected to create a balanced geographical perspective and include CollegeFootballPoll.com's Dave Congrove.
Congrove submitted a ballot that Georgia, Michigan, TCU and Ohio State as the top four with USC 5th, Alabama 6th and Tennessee 7th. The rest of his top ten were conference championship game winners Clemson, Utah and Kansas State. After that, he listed Penn State at Bo. 11, followed by Washington, Florida State, Oregon State, Oregon and Tulane.
Congrove dropped LSU (was 14) and inserted Tulane.

ABOUT THE FWAA-NFF SUPER 16 POLL: The FWAA-NFF Super 16 Poll was established at the conclusion of the 2013 season by long-time partners, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and the National Football Foundation (NFF). Voters rank the top 16 teams in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, and the results will be released every Sunday of the 2022 season; the individual votes of all members will also be made public. The first regular season poll will be released on Tuesday, Sept. 6 (to account for Labor Day games), and the final poll will be released Sunday, Dec. 4.
