FBS Computer Rankings: Top 8 Stay the Same

October 9, 2022 by Staff

Utah, last week's No. 9 team,  was the only loser from last week's top 15 so the top 8 stay exactly the same in the latest Congrove Computer Rankings, released within minutes of the PAC-12 After Dark dramatic finish that saw Oregon State win 28-27 at Stanford. That game ended on a 56-yard TD pass with 13 seconds to play, and came just 45 seconds after The Cardinal had extended their lead on a 46-yard field goal with 58 seconds left.

It was a fitting end to a great weekend of college football.

The top 8 still has Ohio State at the top, followed by Alabama, Michigan, Georgia Oklahoma State, Clemson, Tennessee and Mississippi.

Taking advantage of Utah's loss at UCLA are TCU and Penn State as each move up a notch to take 9th and 10th, respectively. The Utes fell to No. 21.

Mississippi State makes a strong move from 15th to 11th while Oregon climbs from 14th to 12th.

Idle Syracuse takes 13th, followed by NC State and Wake Forest.

Losses bounce Kentucky, BYU, Maryland and Florida State out of the top 25 and get replaced by UCLA at 19, North Carolina at 23, Texas at 24 and Illinois at 25.

The SEC has 4 of the top 8 spots, and 5 of the top 11. The Big Ten has 3 teams in the top 10 and 5 in the top 25. Each of those conferences have 2 of the top 4.

The Bottom Five this week is Akron at 127, Hawaii at 128, UMass at 129, FIU at 130 and New Mexico State remains at 131. The Aggies took the dubious distinction of being ranked 131 away from FIU two weeks ago by falling to the Golden Panthers 21-7 in Las Cruces.
