FBS Computer Rankings: Michigan, FSU, Washington are 1, 2, 3

December 3, 2023 by CollegeFootballPoll.com Staff

Michigan maintains its wire-to-wire No. 1 position in the Congrove Computer Rankings at CollegeFootballPoll.com. The Wolverines blanked Iowa 26-0 in the Big Ten Championship in Indianapolis to achieve their second consecutive 13-0 season and second ever 13-win season. The Wolverines have been victorious in 25 straight Big Ten games dating to 2021, the longest streak in program history and the third longest in Big Ten history.

Florida State is 13-0 for the first time since 2014 after capturing its first ACC title since that same season. The Seminoles move up a spot from No. 3 after their 16-6 win over Louisville in Charlotte. FSU used a nearly impenetrable defense to atone for the necessity to call on a 3rd-string freshman quarterback to lead the offense after Jordan Travis' leg injury vs. North Alabama and Tate Rodemaker's concussion vs. Florida.

Washington jumps from 5th to 3rd after its second 3-point victory over Oregon this year. The 13-0 Huskies downed the Ducks 34-31 in Las Vegas for the PAC-12 crown..

Georgia slipped from 2nd to 4th, and still winds up ahead of Alabama despite the 27-24 loss to the Tide in the SEC Championship game. It was the first loss for the 'Dawgs since falling to Alabama in the 2021 SEC Championship game. Georgia then began a 29-game winning streak by defeating Michigan in the playoff semifinal in the Orange Bowl, and downing Alabama in a rematch in the CFP Championship game.

Idle Ohio State slides down a notch to 5th.

Alabama checks in at No. 6, and the Texas team that defeated the Tide earlier in the year is 7th. Texas was an easy 49-21 winner over Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Championship game in Arlington.

It's believed the College Football Playoff committee will rank the three undefeated teams at 1-thru-3 with Michigan leading Washington and Florida State. Texas is expected to get the 4th spot on the strength of that win over 'Bama serving as the tie-breaker. The rankings will be released during the Selection Sunday special on ESPN beginning at Noon eastern time.

Tulane, which was the top school from the Group of Five conferences heading into the weekend, fell 26-14 at home to SMU in the American Athletic Conference Championship game. The computer's highest-ranked eligible G5 team now is, indeed, the Mustangs (11-2) at No 16 while unbeaten Liberty (13-0) is ranked 17th, followed by Troy at 18 and Tulane at 19.
