As we turn the page on the first month of the college football season, not much has drastically changed in the Congrove Computer Rankings.
Before a game was played in week zero, the top 7 were:
1. Michigan
2. Georgia
3. Southern California
4. Florida State
5. Tennessee
6. Ohio State
7. Washington
Now, the top seven are:
1. Michigan (+/- 0)
2. Florida State (+2)
3. Washington (+4)
4. Ohio State (+2)
5. Penn State (was ranked 10th)
6. Texas (was ranked 12th)
7. Georgia (-5)
SoCal and Tennessee have dropped from the top 7, but both are still in the top 11 with the Trojans at No. 9 and the Vols at No. 11
Michigan and Florida State are still in the top 4.
This past weekend saw the Wolverines methodically club Nebraska 45-7 in Lincoln while Florida State was idle in advance of this week's home game with Virginia Tech. Washington struggled to shake off Arizona on the road, winning by just 7 points (31-24) against a 19.5-point spread while the two teams combined to come up well short of the over/under of 65.5.
Meanwhile, Ohio State was idle and Penn State pulled away from Northwestern in the second half to turn in a 41-13 victory.
In response to those on-field results, the Wolverines keep the top spot; the 'Noles jumped the Huskies to take 2nd; and the Nittany Lions slip slightly behind the Buckeyes in an exchange of the 4th- and 5th-place rankings..
USC slipped the most of all the Top 10 teams after a 48-41 win at Colorado. The Trojans plunge from 6th to 9th after giving Coach Prime and the Buffs the final 21 points of the game to reduce the final winning margin from 28 to just 7.
Texas jumps Georgia for the 6th-place ranking on the heels of a 40-14 rout of visiting Kansas, while the Bulldogs slip one spot after their 27-20 win at Auburn.
Oregon was a 42-6 winner at hapless Stanford and moves up one spot from to 8th.
North Carolina creeps into the Top 10 after an idle weekend
Oklahoma has climbed up four spots to 15th as the Sooners get ready to take on the Longhorns in Dallas. The early Red River Rivalry odds at FanDuel favor Texas by 6-1/2.
Kentucky bounces up 4 spots to 14th after a third straight win over Florida as the Wildcats head to Georgia this Saturday.
Utah took a free-fall from 10th to 18th with its 21-7 loss at Oregon State which moved up from 27th to 22nd.
Three teams fell out of the Top 25 as LSU dropped from 14th to 27th with the 55-49 loss at Ole Miss, while Syracuse dropped from 22nd to 33rd with the 31-14 home loss to Clemson, and Kansas drops from 24 to 34 with the loss Texas.
The three teams moving into the Top 25 are Air Force, UCLA and Oregon State. The undefeated Falcons jump from 31st to 25th after the 49-10 home win over San Diego State, and the Bruins rise 3 spots after a bye week.
