FBS Computer Rankings - Alabama Moves Back Into Top 4 as Cincinnati Slips To 6th

October 24, 2021 by Staff

Alabama's 52-24 win over Tennessee, and Ohio State's 54-7 thumping of Indiana garnered both teams more clout than Cincinnati's 27-20 win over Navy, thus creating a re-shuffling of the latest Congrove Computer Rankings, released early Sunday morning.

Georgia, Oklahoma and Michigan continue to hold down the top 3 spots while the Crimson Tide inched their way up to No. 4, just ahead of the Buckeyes.

Cincinnati slid from 4th to 6th, providing a potential peak as to how the College Football Playoff Committee may assess the Bearcats' strength of schedule when they release their first set of rankings on November 2. It didn't help Cincinnati that Indiana had its doors blown off by Ohio State 54-7, five weeks after the Bearcats recorded a 38-24 win over the Hoosiers in Bloomington. At this point, only the 24-13 victory at Notre Dame would be considered a 'quality win'.

Top-ranked Georgia was idle as the Bulldogs prepare to meet Florida in their annual border war in Jacksonville next Saturday. Relax in the best au online casino.

Oklahoma's margin over Michigan for the No. 2 spot decreased from nearly 3 full points to less than 1 after the Sooners struggled to put away Kansas 35-23 while the Wolverines were dispatching Northwestern 33-7.

Iowa was also idled, but moved up from No. 8 to No. 7 with thanks to rival Iowa State handing then No. 6 Oklahoma State a 24-21 loss.

Wake Forest inched up to No. 8 as the Demon Deacons moved to 7-0 for the first time since 1944 and just the second time in its history.

The American gains a second top ten team with unbeaten SMU rising from 12th to 9th, and Michigan State cracks the top ten with a one-spot rise.

Six different conferences are represented among the top ten schools with the Big Ten occupying four of those slots while the SEC and American have two apiece, followed by the Big 12 and ACC with one each.

The second ten begins with Notre Dame which jumped up four spots from 15th after a relatively easy 31-16 win over USC. The Irish have now taken the last 4-in-a-row from the Trojans, and 8 of the last 11.

Pittsburgh moved up two spots to 12th after handing Clemson a 27-17 loss as the Tigers dropped to 4-3 while the Panthers improved to 6-1.

Oregon checks in at No. 14, just behind Oklahoma State. The Ducks were minor underdogs at UCLA, but quacked out a 34-31 win, resulting in a bounce upward from No. 16 a week ago.

Ole Miss surges from 18 to 15 on the heels of a 31-17 knockout of LSU.

Idle Baylor, which hosts Texas this week in the 111th meeting of those two teams, rose four spots to No. 16.

Iowa State is the computer's highest-ranked two-loss team at No. 17.

UTSA jumps from 25 to 18 as the Roadrunners remain unbeaten at 8-0 with a 45-16 in at Louisiana Tech.

Texas A&M and North Carolina State round out the top 25.

The bottom of the rankings is dominated by Independents with UMass at 127, New Mexico State at 129, and UConn at 1`30.  Conference USA's Old Dominion holds the No. 128 spot.
