Computer Rankings: Texas Wrests the Top Spot From Underwhelming Oregon

New SEC member Texas flexed its muscle in a 31-12 rout of Michigan at "The Big House" on Saturday and it's prize is taking over the top spot of the computer rankings after Oregon led the first two weeks.

The Ducks slipped to 3rd after a second straight underwhelming performance, rallying to defeat Boise State 37-34 in Eugene. Oregon was a 24-14 winner in week 1 over Idaho, a FCS school that upset Wyoming 17-13 on the road on Saturday.

Ohio State jumped from 4th to 2nd after a 56-0 win over Western Michigan, while Georgia inched downward from 3rd to 4th with a 48-3 win over FCS member Tennessee Tech.

Ole Miss and Alabama kept the No. 5 and 6 rankings, respectively, after both teams had to exercise little effort to score big wins. The Rebels downed MTSU 52-3 while the Tide took care of USF 42-16.

USC gained 4 spots, from 11th to 7th, on the heels of a 48-0 win over Utah State, while Penn State stayed at No. 8 after struggling to get past Bowling Green 34-27.

Louisville joined the Trojans in receiving a four-spot boost from 13th to 9th with a 49-14 rout of Jacksonville State, and Tennessee ascended six spots to No. 10 with a 51-10 destruction of NC State in the Duke's Mayo Kickoff in Charlotte.

The weekly update of the Congrove Computer Rankings (CCR Top 134) was released on CollegeFootballPoll.com early Monday morning.

The 16-team SEC and and 18-member B1G own the top eight spots, and ten of the top twelve as Louisville and Miami check in for the ACC at Nos. 9 and 12, and new SEC member Oklahoma is 11th.

The first team from the Big 12 to show up in the rankings is Iowa State at No.15, and the Cyclones are followed by fellow Big 12 schools Oklahoma State and Utah.

Iowa, despite a 20-19 loss to Iowa State, is one spot ahead of ISU at No. 14, and just behind of Missouri at No. 13.

The highest ranking team from a non-Power 4 conference is Memphis from the American at No. 20.

Notre Dame took a freefall from 10th to 21st with its stunning 16-14 loss at home to Northern Illinois.

Boston College and Clemson give the ACC two more representatives in the Top 25 as the Eagles rise from 29 to 22, and Clemson soars from 40 to 25.

The highest-ranked Mountain West team is Boise State, which fell from 24 to 32 after losing to Oregon.

Northern Illinois moves up 17 spots with the victory over the Irish, but the Miami RedHawks rank one spot higher for the MAC.

Texas State (Sun Belt) rose from 59 to 38 after a dominating 49-10 win over UTSA in San Marcos in the I-35 rivalry game.

Conference USA doesn't show up until we get to Liberty at No. 51.

Both PAC-2 teams are 2-0, but Oregon State and Washington State only managed to take 57th and 73rd.
