The competition is tight in the FBS Congrove Computer Rankings at CollegeFootballPoll.com, especially among the top four teams which now are Oregon, Ohio State, Texas and Alabama.

Last week, it lined up as Texas, Oregon, Ohio State and Ole Miss, with Alabama and Georgia following.

The Longhorns, in fact, held the top spot for three weeks after displacing the Ducks who were the No. 1 team in weeks 1 and 2, as well as the preseason poll that projected where teams would be ranked at the end of the regular season.

Ole Miss fell from 4th to 7th with the 20-17 loss at Kentucky. Georgia slipped from 6th to 8th with the 41-34 loss at the Crimson Tide.

Texas, a 35-13 winner at home over Mississippi State, dropped to third while Ohio State moved up one spot to 2nd after a 38-7 win at Michigan State.

Oregon was a 34-13 winner at UCLA, while Penn State notched a 21-7 victory at home over Illinois.

Miami stayed at number 9 after review of a walk-off Hail Mary touchdown pass by Virginia Tech reversed the call on the field to give the Hurricanes a 38-34 escape.

Iowa State bumped up one rung on the ladder to crack the top ten. The Cyclones were 20-0 winners at a slumping Houston squad that has been shut out for eight straight quarters.

Notre Dame has climbed back up to 11th after dropping to 21st with the 16-14 loss at home to Northern Illinois. USC is 12th which is still five spots lower than the Trojans were ranked two weeks ago after the loss at Michigan. Iowa, Missouri and Michigan take 13th through 15th while Louisville plummets from 10th lands at 16th with the 31-24 loss at Notre Dame.
