Computer Rankings: No Change Among Top 6 with Texas No. 1

The top six remains in the same in the Congrove Computer Rankings at CollegeFootballPoll.com. Half of those six programs were idle.

Texas stays No. 1, followed by idle Oregon, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Alabama and Georgia. The Ducks, Tide and Bulldogs were on a bye week.

USC was ranked 7th ago, but was a surprising 27-24 loss in Ann Arbor as Michigan scored the winning touchdown with just 37 seconds left. Mullings reeled off a 63-yard run to set up his own touchdown run off left tackle from 1-1/2 yards out on 4th-and-goal.

As a result, the Trojans fall to 14th while the Wolverines rise from the ashes to claim the 17 spot. Michigan previously lost 31-12 at home to Texas as they have, thus far, faced the toughest schedule in the country.

On Saturday, Texas was a 51-3 winner over ULM, Ohio State dumped Marshall 49-14, and Ole Miss thumped Georgia Southern 52-13.

Penn State and Tennessee each move up one rung on the ladder to take 7th and 8th while Miami climbs two rungs to get slotted 9th while the Cards stay put at number 10.

Iowa State is up five spots from 16 to 11.

Utah, Iowa, Clemson, Texas A&M and LSU each rise four spots with the Utes at 13, the Tigers at 18, the Aggies at 19 and the Bayou Bengals at 20.

BYU rocketed up 11 spots, from 33 to 22, on the heels of 38-9 win at home over an undefeated Kansas State team that was No. 20 in the computer rankings last week, and 14th in the Super 16 Poll. The Cougars remain undefeated at 4-0.

Rutgers is also undefeated after a 26-23 upset win at Virginia Tech on Jai Patel's 24-yard field goal with 1:56 left. The win boosted the Scarlet Knights from 26 to 21.

Oklahoma State's attempted rally at home came up short as the Cowboys scored the final 16 points of the game but fell 22-19 to Utah. OSU dropped from 15 to 24.

Memphis followed up its big 20-12 win at Florida State with a 56-44 loss at home to Navy and fell from 18 to 28.

Northern Illinois had a bye week after its win at Notre Dame, but swung back into action yesterday by losing 23-20 at home to Buffalo in overtime.

Toledo followed up its 41-17 romp at Mississippi State with a computer-predicted 26-21 loss at Western Kentucky. The Rockets dove from 41 to 56.

The 16-team SEC and 18-member B1G own the top eight spots, and the ACC occupies the next two. Iowa State is the highest-ranked Big 12 school at 11.

The highest-ranked team from a non-Power 4 conference is Boise State from the Mountain West at 25. Memphis is still the top-ranked tam from the American at 28, while Liberty leads all CUSA schools at 35.

The MAC is still paced by Northern Illinois, even though the Huskies fell from 30 to 52.

Independent Notre Dame is 12, and the Mountain West's Boise State is 25.

The Sun Belt's top-ranked team is James Madison is 58 after the Dukes went to Chapel Hill and put up 70 points on UNC. They led 60-24 with 9:16 to go in the third.
