The top seven are unchanged in the Congrove Computer Rankings, released Sunday, but Oklahoma and Texas dropped precipitously after upset losses. The Sooners fell 37-30 at Iowa State while the Longhorns were edged 33-31 at home by TCU.
Texas A&M also took a fairly big hit on the heels of a 52-24 loss at Alabama. The Aggies were 17-point Vegas underdogs.
Oklahoma was an 8-point Vegas favorite over the Cyclones, and Texas was a 13-point favorite vs. TCU.
The Sooners dropped from 22nd to 31st, Texas fell from 17th to 22nd, and Texas A&M slid from 8th to 17th.
Alabama continues to hold the top spot, followed by Clemson, Wisconsin, Ohio State and Penn State to round out the top 5 for the second week in-a-row.
Spots 6 through 10 are taken, in order, by Notre Dame, Minnesota Indiana, Virginia Tech and Georgia.
The rankings are dominated by Power 5 conference schools with the Big Ten holding 5 of the top 10 slots without having played a game. That conference was just added to the rankings last week.
The SEC has 6 members in the top 17, but only 2 in the top 10.
Six programs from the ACC are ranked among the top 23 with 3 of those schools in the top 9.
The Big 12 fares quite worse with only 2 teams in the top 22 and none in the top 14. Oklahoma State is that conference's highest-ranked program at No. 15.
American conference member Cincinnati is the highest-ranked program from the Group of Five conferences at No. 21.
The highest-ranked independent is BYU at No. 28.
Louisiana-Lafayette is the highest-ranked Sun Belt school at No. 29, while Conference USA brings up the rear of the conferences with Marshall leading the way at No. 35.
The PAC-12, Mountain West and MAC will be added to the rankings in the near future. Each of those conferences joined the Big Ten in opting back in to the Fall season. PAC-12 schools are looking to begin play on Nov. 7, while the Mountain West joins the Big Ten with an Oct. 24 start date. The MAC will kick off Nov. 4 with mid-week games. UMass is also putting together a schedule, while UConn, Old Dominion and New Mexico State remain out of the picture and have no plans to resurrect their programs for 2020.
