Notre Dame, Oregon State and Ole Miss all enjoy nice upward movement in this week's AFCA Coaches' Poll after big wins over the weekend. Naturally, their opponents - Utah, Duke and LSU - all moved down the poll but remain in the Top 25.
The Fighting Irish rise two spots to No. 11 after a late 21-14 win over Duke in Durham, while the Blue Devils drop four spots to No. 21.
Oregon State was a 21-7 home-winner over a wounded Utah team, propelling the Beavers upward 6 spots from 21 to 15 as the Utes fell 9 to No. 19.
Ole Miss climbed 5 spots to 15th with its 55-49 home win over LSU, while the Bayou Bengals plunged from 12th to 23rd.
The poll is sponsored by US LBM, which is the largest privately owned, full-line distributor of specialty building materials in the United States.
Georgia remains No. 1 with some fracturing in the polling. Last week, the 'Dawgs received 61 of 63 first-place votes. That number drops to 59 this week with 2 votes going to Ohio State, and 1 each to Michigan, Texas and Washington.
Over-all, the top three are unchanged with the Wolverines and Buckeyes still trailing the Bulldogs.
Georgia needed a late TD pass to knock off Auburn 27-20, Michigan had a dominating 45-7 performance at Nebraska, and Ohio State was idle.
Texas and Florida State changed places with the Longhorns moving into 4th. Texas blew out Kansas 40-14 in Austin and sent the Jayhawks out of the Top 25 after having just entered the poll at No. 24 prior to that game. The 'Noles were idle before hosting Virginia Tech this week.
Florida, ranked 23 a week ago, dropped out after a 33-14 loss at Kentucky, which catapulted the 'Cats into the poll at No. 20 this week.
Oddly, idle Kansas State also dropped from the poll and was replaced by Louisville which prevailed 13-10 over NC State in an uninspiring performance by both teams last Friday night in Raleigh.
