The Buffalo Bills and the Baltimore Ravens have a lot going for them as they prepare for the 2025 NFL Draft and the season ahead. Buffalo made it to the AFC Championship game in 2025 by eliminating Baltimore, 27-25, in the divisional round.
Buffalo QB Josh Allen is the reigning AP Most Valuable Player, and Jackson was the winner a year ago. Both can move offenses with their feet and their arm, and both lead the AP NFL Regular Season MVP Odds for 2025.
These two teams have also enjoyed relative coaching stability and it begins at the top as McDermott has been the head coach in Buffalo since 2017 while John Harbaugh began his tenure with the Ravens in 2008. That ranks McDermott tied for 4th on the list of current longest-tenured head coaches, while Harbaugh ranks second. Each has had just one losing season.
Here is a look at who is in each position as General Manager, Head Coach, Defensive Coordinator and Offensive Coordinator for both of these franchises.
2024 Record: 12-5 (4-2 AFC North, 1st place)
Odds to reach 2025 Super Bowl: +700, tied for 2nd-best with Kansas City
General Manager: Eric DeCosta (2019)
Head Coach: John Harbaugh (2008)
Offensive Coordinator: Todd Monken (2023)
Defensive Coordinator: Zach Orr (2024)
Baltimore is working proof that familiarity breeds success. From the coaching staff to the playing field, the Ravens are nothing if not stocked with familiar names.
62-year-old John Harbaugh has served as the head coach since 2008, making him the second-longest tenured head coach in the NFL. 2025 will be his 18th season to leave him one behind Mike Tomlin of Pittsburgh (19).
Eric DeCosta took over the GM role in 2019 after Ozzie Newsome had served in that capacity from the franchise's beginnings. DeCosta has also been with the club since the beginning and was the assistant GM under Newsome from 2012-2018.
Zach Orr, who is just 32, has practically been a lifer with Baltimore. His brief playing days with the Ravens (2014-2016) were ended for medical reasons. He did spend a year in Jacksonville as outside linebackers coach in 2021 under the failed leadership debacle of Urban Meyer. He returned in 2022 and was promoted DC last year.
Todd Monken, on the other hand, had no prior role with the Ravens. He has owned his craft over a 36-year career that had included multiple college and NFL stops. He was briefly the head coach of Southern Miss (2013-2015) and is a cousin of Army head football coach Jeff Monken.
As far as the roster is concerned, Joe Flacco and Lamar Jackson have been the dedicated season starters at quarterback since 2008. Tight end Mark Andrews has been with the Ravens since 2018. Jackson had a record-breaking year in 2024 when he became the first to pass for 4,000 yards and rush for 900 yards in the same season, the first to lead the league in yards and average yards for both passing and rushing attempts, and the first with at least 4,000 yards and 40 TD passes with four or fewer interceptions.
One key addition to the club in 2024 was running back Derrick Henry whom they acquired when the Tennessee Titans opted not to re-sign him after 8 seasons with the club. All Henry did in his first season in Baltimore was run for a career-best 2,191 yards (regular and postseason) to top his 2020 output with the Titans of 2,067. Between high school in Yulee, Florida (12,124), college ball at Alabama (3,591), and his NFL career (12,425), Henry has rushed for a cumulative 28,140 yards. He had an insane 153 rushing touchdowns in high school, and followed that up with 42 in college, and 113 in the pros for a total of 288. His high school total remains the national career record. He is the only player known to have a 2,000-yard season at all three levels.
2024 Record: 13-4 (5-1 AFC East, 1st place)
Odds to reach 2025 Super Bowl: +750, 4th-best
General Manager: Brandon Beane (2017)
Head Coach: Sean McDermott (2017)
Offensive Coordinator: Joe Brady (2022)
Defensive Coordinator: Bobby Babich (2024)
GM Bradon Beane and head coach Sean McDermott were hired in the same year, but this was a case where the head coach came first and the manager followed after Doug Whaley was fired from that post. Those moves sparked an end to an 18-year playoff drought which, at the time, was the longest active streak in the NFL and the longest sustained drought for the franchise. The 2018 campaign (6-10) was a setback but, since then, the Bills have won at least 10 games in the regular each year and has posted 11+ wins in each of the last five campaigns while capturing five straight divisional titles.
The only thing still missing is a Super Bowl win (0-4). Even an appearance in the quintessential game is still lacking since the 1993 season when the Bills made an unprecedented fourth consecutive showing.
McDermott has a career regular season mark of 86-45 to go along with a playoff record of 7-7 in his only head coaching job. His 2020 and 2024 teams advanced to the AFC Championship, only to fall to the Kansas City Chiefs each time.
Since moving to Joe Brady as OC, the Bills are 22-7 and have have possessed one of the more balanced, feared offensive attacks in the NFL. Brady became the OC with 7 games left in the 2023 regular season when he took over in an interim capacity and helped the team finish 6-1. He was officially named OC on January 28, 2024.
Bobby Babich has been an assistant with Buffalo since McDermott took over as head coach. The long-time McDermott protégé was elevated to defensive coordinator for the 2024 campaign and the unit did not fare that well. Statistically, the Buffalo 'D' ranked 17th over-all last season, 24th versus the pass, and 12th in stopping the run. However, Babich had to deal with tons of missed game for injuries.
Quarterback Josh Allen was named MVP at the NFL Honors Awards on February 6th, leading up to the Super Bowl in New Orleans that featured Patrick Mahomes (Chiefs) and Jalen Hurts (Eagles).
The Bills should be expected to defended their AFC North title successfully in 2025 after finishing five games clear of the second-place Dolphins in 2024.
