The new college football season is underway, and fans the world over are eagerly awaiting the drama to unfold and to see who emerges victorious. There are always plenty of twists and turns throughout the season, so what happens at the beginning is rarely indicative of how things will end up.
However, the Colorado Buffaloes have had a particularly strong start. In this article, we examine how Colorado has navigated these tricky early weeks and discuss what early results might mean for the future of their season.
Colorado were drawn against the TCU Horned Frogs in the opening game of the NCAA football season. It was new coach Deion Sanders’ first game in charge of the Buffaloes, and there was a lot of expectation riding on his shoulders.
However, they had a stern first test to overcome. The Horned Frogs were strong last season, proving resolute and difficult to beat. Despite going in as underdogs, Colorado managed to beat the Horned Frogs by 45 to 42. The following week saw Colorado go into their second game of the season when they were up against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. This is an age-old rivalry, one that attracts a lot of attention. In fact, the match was so popular that it generated $17 million for the city of Boulder.
Colorado fans will have left the game happy, as the Buffaloes dismantled the Cornhuskers, leaving the field as 36 – 14 victors. This demonstrated to supporters that the opening game was no fluke and that Colorado were onto something special under the guidance and tutelage of Deion Sanders.

The Buffaloes' next fixture was another rivalry, seeing them face local opposition Colorado State. The stage was set for what turned out to be one of the most dramatic Colorado games in recent memory, one that will go down in the annals of Buffaloes' history.
They were 28 -20 down with just over two minutes to play. All seemed lost, so much so that fans actually began leaving the ground. However, a late flurry of action and some incredible pressure play saw the Buffaloes emerge victorious with a 43-35 win. Fans were elated and rushed on to the pitch to celebrate with the players.
Colorado is without a doubt the hottest team to watch in college football today. They have lit up these early weeks of the season and have given fans something to dream about. They’ve got some tough games ahead, with matches against Oregon, USC and Arizona State on the horizon. However, players and fans alike will be heading into these games full of confidence. The coach has instilled a winning mentality and steely fortitude that should see them capable of overcoming whatever challenge comes their way.
