Augusta, GA (August 2, 2024) - The Augusta Sports Council is pleased to announce the 2024 Ray Guy Award Preseason Watch List. Since 2000, the award has annually honored the nation’s top collegiate punter in the FBS.
To this day, Ray Guy is the only punter ever selected in the first round of the NFL draft (1973, LA Raiders, pick No. 23 over-all.). Guy was an All-American in 1972 at Southern Miss and was later selected to seven Pro Bowls during his NFL career.
The 2023 winner was Tory Taylor of the Iowa Hawkeyes.
The 33 candidates on this list was compiled from eligible holdovers from the 2023 semifinalist list, the top ten NCAA Punters from 2023, the 2023 All-Conference teams, the 2023 All-American Teams, the 2024 preseason All-Conference Teams, and eligible punters on the 2023 watch list.
The number of eligible candidates for this season will grow when the award opens nominations on August 3. The complete list of candidates will be released on November 6. In mid-November, the Ray Guy Award committee will meet to select the ten semifinalists, who will be announced on November 15.
A national body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) sports information directors, media representatives, and previous Ray Guy Award winners will then vote for the top three finalists to be announced on November 26. After the finalists are named, the voting body will cast ballots again to select the nation’s top punter.
CollegeFootballPoll.com's Dave Congrove is a voter for the Ray Guy Award.
The winner will be announced live during The Home Depot College Football Awards airing on ESPN in December 2024.

The Augusta Sports Council was established in 1991 by a group of sports-minded volunteers with a goal of recruiting sporting events to the community. Prior to 1991, Augusta only operated nationally in a couple of sports markets. Today, our management team is recognized for being among the best in the country and has partnerships in more than a dozen niche sports.
Since those early years, more than 800 events have been created, recruited or supported by the Augusta Sports Council. From the small to the multi-sport, these events have attracted 450,000 athletes to the area, leaving behind more than $200 million in economic impact. A couple of stand-out opportunities include the 1996 Olympic Box-Offs, the 1999 and 2002 Georgia Games Championships, NIKE Peach Jam Basketball (1996-present), ESPN Bassmaster Tournament and more recently IRONMAN® 70.3® Augusta, billed as North America's largest IRONMAN® 70.3® event, and GHSA Boys & Girls State Golf Championships.
