The Mountain West Conference announced its 2024 football matchups today, including home and away designations, but no dates. The league slate features a total of 42 games, plus 12 matchups against Oregon State and Washington State.
Ten of the former PAC-12 schools bolted for either the B1G, the Big 12, or the ACC amid a series of administrative blunders that weakened the conference's finances and visibility. The Big 12 picked off Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah, while the B1G napped Oregon, UCLA, USC and Washington. The ACC later agreed to absorb two of the remaining four, Cal and Stanford, leaving Oregon State and Washington State to fend for themselves.
With the College Football Playoff moving to a 12-game format in 2024, the MWC membership believes that an agreement with the Beavers and Cougars could provide needed schedule strength to help propel one of its own schools into the playoff mix.
The agreement to include the two remaining PAC-12 schools in league scheduling is only for the 2024 season and, like everything on the college football landscape, is subject to change in the months that remain before kick-off.
The 2024 schedule follows a 7+1 model. Specifically, the MWC eliminated 1 conference game and replaced it with a contest against either the Beavers or Cougars. That leaves 7 conference games on each teams' slate, plus 1 against the Beavers and Cougars, with an even split of home and away games among those 8 contests.
The Mountain West Championship Game will again feature the two members with the best winning percentage in conference games, with the top team hosting on Saturday, December 7.
The 2024 MWC football membership continues to consist of 12 teams - Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, San Diego State, San Jose State, UNLV, Utah State, and Wyoming.
Note: Dates for each contest will be announced later.
