Which teams would advance to the USFL Playoffs came down to the final weekend (week 10) of the regular season, save for the defending champion Birmingham Stallions who had clinched their spot in week 9.
In the South Division, the Stallions (8-2) won 27-20 at Memphis (5-5) on Saturday to secure the league’s top record and the right to host a USFL playoff game in Birmingham for the first time in 38 years.
On Sunday, the New Orleans Breakers (7-3) claimed the second South Division spot with a 17-10 win in Memphis over the Houston Gamblers (5-5).
The win by the Breakers sets up a rematch of the 2022 South Division Championship between Birmingham and New Orleans.
The North Division will have two new postseason participants in 2023, as the two playoff spots came down to “win or go home” games.
The Pittsburgh Maulers (4-6) eliminated the New Jersey Generals (3-7) with a 26-6 win in Canton on Saturday.
On Sunday, the Michigan Panthers (4-6) were 23-20 comeback winners at home over the Philadelphia Stars (4-6).
