The No. 1 team in the FBS and the FCS both went down to defeat in games that ended minutes apart.

South Dakota State held a 9-7 lead at home over Dakota Marker rival North Dakota State from the 4:43 mark of the first half until 1:49 was left in the game when Raja Nelson scored on a 20-yard pass from Cam Miller for the 13-9 edge and what became the final score.

Texas had a 23-0 hole to dig out of at halftime and came up a few shovels short in the 30-15 home loss to Georgia.

Delaware saw its perfect season end with a 28-9 loss at Richmond. The Blue Hens move to the FBS next season.

Mercer's unbeaten run also came to a close with a 55-35 loss at Samford.

That leaves Dartmouth and Montana State as the only remaining undefeated teams. Dartmouth is 5-0 after a 20-16 win over CCSU, and Montana State is 8-0 after a 44-14 win at Portland State.

FCS vs. FBS

No FBS-FCS games were scheduled for the third straight week.

One such game will take place next week when Wagner visits UMass.

FBS schools are 108-6 in such games this season, and a collective 1,908-158 (.924) since we began tracking this in 2003.

In 2024, there are 121 scheduled scheduled matchups between FBS and FCS schools with 119 schools playing one such game, while Hawaii and UMass each play two.

This year, 15 schools do not play a FCS opponent and 5 are in the B1G (Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, USC and UCLA). Texas is the only school in the SEC that will not play a FCS program. The same is true for Virginia Tech in the ACC. In fact, Texas and Virginia Tech, along with Michigan and Houston, are repeats from last year's list of schools that played all FBS programs.
