October 21, 2024 by CollegeFootballPoll.com Staff

Yale at Penn kicks off this week's FCS slate on Friday night, while 58 of the 59 games on the agenda will take place on Saturday. The Quakers are a 4.11-point home favorite, according to the Congrove Computer Rankings at CollegeFootballPoll.com.

Check out the ranking of all 129 teams, and the Computer's Pick of every game. You will also conveniently find the most recent odds from a variety of sportsbooks.

South Dakota State fell 13-9 at North Dakota State this past Saturday and dropped from No. 1 in the computer ranker while the Bison rose from 5 to 3. Montana State took over the top spot.

There is no rest to be had for the Jackrabbits who return home to host 2nd-ranked South Dakota this week. South Dakota State won last year's game 37-3 for its second straight in the series and has an all-time lead of 57-54-7. South Dakota had taken the previous two, but SDSU is 23-5 since 1990. The computer has the Jacks favored by just 3.88 points.

Montana State gets a bye week as done No. 6 UC Davis.

In games involving other highly-ranked teams, North Dakota State heads to Murray State (1-6, 0-4) as a 28.40-point play, and 5th-ranked Delaware is a 15.43-point home pick over an Albany team that lost 30-14 at home to Elon this past Saturday when the Great Danes were 3.67-point favorites. Albany was No. 21 in the preseason ranking and rose as high as 12th, but has since dropped to No. 62 with an over-all record of 3-4.

No. 7 Montana visits upset-minded Northern Colorado. The Bears, who enter this game after a bye week, stunned everyone in their last outing with a 21-17 upset at Weber State for their only win of the season. Weber was just coming off a big win of its own, a 55-48 upset in overtime at Montana. The Griz are 21.36-point favorites.

Another group of Bears, the variety from Missouri State, will prowl into Cedar Falls and try to take down a Northern Iowa team that's just 2-5 over-all and 0-3 in the MVFC. Missouri State is riding a 5-game winning streak after opening the year with close losses at Montana (24-29) and FBS Ball State (34-42). As a result, the Bears have risen to No. 8 in the computer ranking.

No. 9 Tarleton State is 6-1 overall, and at 3-0 in the conference, is the only undefeated team in league play in the United Athletic Conference. This week, the Texans visit Austin Peay (3-4, 2-2) as a 5.70-point favorite.

10th-ranked SEMO entertains Gardner-Webb with a 13.12-point advantage.

No. 11 Dartmouth (5-0), which joins Montana State (8-0) as the only other undefeated team in the FCS, is a 3.12-point underdog at Columbia.

The Florida A&M rivalry with Southern gets renewed this week as the Rattlers look to rebound from a 35-21 loss at Jackson State, their first loss to a FCS team this season. The Jaguars are trying for a third straight win after opening October with a 51-7 blowout loss at home to Nicholls. Florida A&M leads the series 38-26-1. This game also features two great bands - FAMU's Marching 100 and Southern's Human Jukebox.

FCS vs. FBS

No FBS-FCS games were scheduled last week for the fourth straight week. One such game will take place this Saturday when Wagner visits UMass.

FBS schools are 108-6 in such games this season, and a collective 1,908-158 (.924) since we began tracking this in 2003.

In 2024, there are 121 scheduled scheduled matchups between FBS and FCS schools with 119 schools playing one such game, while Hawaii and UMass each play two.

This year, 15 schools do not play a FCS opponent and 5 are in the B1G (Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, USC and UCLA). Texas is the only school in the SEC that will not play a FCS program. The same is true for Virginia Tech in the ACC. In fact, Texas and Virginia Tech, along with Michigan and Houston, are repeats from last year's list of schools that played all FBS programs.

August 24: Montana State 35, New Mexico 31

September 7: Southern Utah 27, UTEP 24 (OT)
