Updated January 6. Alabama A&M hires head coach.
Alphabetically by team, here are the FCS coaching changes for 2025.
Former head coach Connell Maynor fired (Dec. 2) – 7-5 record in 2024, 40-32 in 7 seasons
New head coach - Sam Shade (Jan. 6) - For Alabama and NFL defensive back who was head coach at Miles (2022-2024) where he led improvement of team from 1-9 in his 1st season to 10-3 last year and the second round of the D2 playoffs.
Former head coach Mike Uremovich resigned (Dec. 4) – 9-3 record in 2024, 23-11 in 3 seasons. Took HC job at Ball State.
New head coach Kevin Lynch (Dec. 12) - assistant at Ball State (2016-2024). Most recently served as AHC, OC and QB coach.
Former head coach Stan Dakosty fired (Dec. 2) – 2-10 record in 2024, 16-29 in 4 seasons. Dakosty is a Colgate graduate and 17-year veteran on Colgate staff
New head coach - Curt Fitzpatrick (Dec. 21) - The former St. John Fisher QB was 45-5 at D3 Cortland (NY) from 2020-2024 with four straight Empire 8 titles and was the D3 National Coach of the Year in 2023 when Cortland won the national championship. Prior to Cortland, he was 35-38 at Morrisville, NJ.
Former head coach Scott Abell resigned (Nov. 26) – 6-5 record in 2024, 47-28 in 7 seasons. Took HC job at Rice.
New head coach - Saj Thakkar (Dec. 17) - The 33-year-old spent two seasons as HC at Bentley, a D2 school in Waltham, Massachusetts where his teams were 14-6 overall, 11-4 in the Northeaset-10 Conference. He previously coached RB at Harvard from 2018-2022. Played QB/WR at Fitchburg.
Former head coach Lee Hull fired (Dec. 3) – 1-11 record in 2024, 2-21 in 2 seasons
New head coach - DeShaun Jackson. The 15-year (2008-2022) NFL veteran spent last season as an assistant coach of Woodrow Wilson Classical High School in Long Beach, California. He was also wrongly reported by some 'sources' as being the head coach which was 9-5 in 2024, losing 14-13 to Highland of Palmdale in the state playoffs. We confirmed Jackson served as offensive coordinator and receivers coach under head coach Travis Clark who was newly hired before the 2024 season.
Former head coach Todd Stepsis resigned (Dec. 3) to take job at Norther Iowa. Was 8-3 in 2024, 29-32 in 6 seasons (16-7 in last 2)
New head coach - Joe Woodley (Dec. 23) - Won 2024 NAIA Championship with Grand View (Des Moines, Iowa) and went 14-0 in 2024 while making history in defeating all three of the most recent national champs in the same season. Over-all, Grand View was 72-5 in 6 seasons under his watch, and 29-0 in conference play (Heart of America Athletic Conference). The team was undefeated over-all in every regular season, and lost no earlier than the NAIA quarterfinals each year.
Former head coach Tre Lamb resigned (Dec. 8) to take same position with FBS member Tulsa. Lamb was 7-5 in 2024 (only season at school), career record 27-25.
New head coach - Will Healy (Dec. 12) - RB coach at Georgia State (2024), AHC at UCF (2023), HC Austin Peay (13-21 from 2016-2018), Charlotte (15-24 from 2019-2022)
Former head coach Jason Eck resigned (Dec. 14) to take same position with FBS member New Mexico. Was 10-4 in 2024, 26-13 in 3 seasons with FCS Playoff appearances each year, including quarterfinal losses in last two.
New head coach - Thomas Ford (Dec. 18) - Was HC at Simon Frasier (2018-2019) where he was 2-18, and Stadium HS (13-28). Was RB coach at Oregon State in 2024 and Quality Control Coach of offense at Washington in 2020-2021. Spent 2023 at Oregon State as RB coach.
Former head coach Kendrick Wade fired (Dec. 4) after just two seasons – Was 1-11 over-all and 1-7 in SWAC in 2024 after posting the same record in 2023.
New head coach - Kyle Williams (Interim)
Former head coach Gary Goff fired (Nov. 25) – 6-6 record in 2024, 10-23 in 3 seasons (improved from 0-10 to 6-6 in 2024)
New head coach - Matt Viator (Dec. 3) - Former McNeese HC (2006-2015), was 78-33. Became HC at ULM, 2017-2020 went 19-39, fired. QC at Louisiana since 2021.
Former coach Tim Rebowe retired (Dec. 1) – 4-8 record in 2024, 57-56 in 10 seasons.
New head coach Tommy Rybacki (Dec. 1) – Was DC under Rebowe at Nicholls for entire tenure
Former head coach Dawson Odums fired (Nov. 26) – 4-8 record in 2025, 15-31 in 4 seasons
New head coach - Mike Vick (Dec. 20) - former star QB at Virginia Tech, Atlanta and Philadelphia. A legend in the 757 area code which is the talent-rich recruiting Tidewater region of Virginia.
Former head coach Vincent Brown fired (Dec. 4) – 1-11 record in 2023, 2-22 in 2 seasons
New head coach - Shawn Gibbs (Dec. 6) - Was HC at Fort Valley State with records of 6-4 in 2024 and 22-9 in 3 seasons.
Former head coach Bubba Schweigert resigned (Nov. 30) to take administrative roll with UND – 5-7 record in 2024, 66-57 in 11 seasons
New head coach - Eric Schmidt (Dec. 9) returns to North Dakota as HC after playing linebacker (1998-2001), serving as LB coach (2016), DC (2014-2019). Spent 2024 as DC at San Diego State after stints at Fresno State and Washington.
Former head coach Mark Farley resigned (Nov. 10, effective end of season) – 3-9 record in 2024, 183-112 in 24 seasons
New head coach Todd Stepsis (Dec. 3) – Resigned as HC at Drake where he was 29-32 in 6 season (16-7 last 2)
Former head coach Bubba McDowell fired (Nov. 24) – 5-7 in 2024, 17-18 in 3 seasons
New head coach - Tremaine Jackson (Dec. 21) -30-9 at D2 Valdosta State. Lost 2024 National Championship to Ferris State. Was 10-3 at Colorado Mesa (2020-2021).
Former head coach Andy Thompson resigned (Dec. 6) to join former HC Troy Taylor as DC at Stanford. Was 3-9 in 2024 with Hornets after going 8-5 in 2023 (11-14 in 2 seasons).
New head coach - Brennan Marion (Dec. 20) - Was OC/QB Coach at UNLV (2023-2024) and other FBS experience before that. School is looking to join FBS by 2028.
Former head coach Jimmy Rogers resigned (Dec. 28) to take the head coaching job at Washington State. He was 27-3 in two seasons and guided the Jacks to the 2023 national championship after his predecessor, John Stiegelmeirer had done the same in 2022. Rogers' 2024 squad lost in the FCS playoff semifinals and finished 12-3 after going 15-0 in 2023..
New head coach - Dan Jackson (Jan. 3) - Former SDSU linebacker (2003-2005) who served last year as DC and LB coach at Idaho.
Former head coach Brian Young resigned (Dec. 4) – 2-9 record in 2024, 13-30 in 4 seasons
New head coach - Mike Jasper (Dec., 20) - Was HC at Bethel (TN), his Alma mater from 2019-2024, with a 44-20 record and a pair NAIA playoffs.
Former head coach Landon Fox fired (Nov. 24) – 4-7 record in 2024, 21-42 in 6 seasons
New head coach Andy Waddle (Dec. 9) was HC at D3 Marietta with a 55-61 record and best finish of 3rd place in Ohio Athletic Conference.
