PRINCETON, N.J. – Both Harvard and Dartmouth were voted preseason favorites in the 2022 Ivy League Football Preseason Media Poll. The poll was voted on by 16 media members that cover the league.
Just three points separated the top three teams. The Crimson and Big Green each had 108 points in the poll, while Princeton ranked third with 105.
Harvard garnered the most first-place votes with eight. Last season, the Crimson led the nation in rushing defense, allowing just 64.6 yards per game, and ranked fifth in scoring defense permitting 14.9 point per game. The Crimson was 8-2 overall on the season and 5-2 in Ivy play.
After earning a share of the Ivy League title in 2021, Dartmouth received four-first place votes. The Big Green posted a record of 9-1 last season and went 6-1 in Ivy play. Dartmouth had the third ranked scoring defense in the country last season, allowing just 14.7 points per game.
Princeton, which also earned a share of the Ivy title last season, garnered four first-place votes. The Tigers were 9-1 last season and 6-1 in league play. Yale ranked fourth with 83 points.
The poll was rounded out by Columbia with 67 points, Penn with 49, Brown with 29 and Cornell with 27.
Over the past six seasons, 5-of-8 teams have captured an Ivy League title – Dartmouth (2015, 2019, 2021), Harvard (2015), Penn (2015, 2016), Princeton (2016, 2018, 2021) and Yale (2017, 2019).
The 2022 Ivy League football season kicks off on Friday, Sept. 16, with six games to appear on ESPN linear networks throughout the season. All Ivy League home games not appearing in the ESPN linear package will air on ESPN+ and select games will also simulcast on regional sports networks.
