FEATURED MOMENT:

January 20, 1925: Three of Notre Dame’s legendary "Four Horsemen" – HB Jim Crowley, FB Elmer Layden and QB Harry Stuhldreher – earn consensus All-America status after the 1924 season. HB Don Miller is named to three All-America teams, but falls short of consensus status. The players’ legendary game against Army earlier in the season inspired NFF tri-founder Grantland Rice to pen the nickname.

January 15, 2000: Behind the running of Utah RB Mike Anderson and the throwing of Notre Dame quarterback Jarious Jackson, Team USA downs Team Florida 21-14 in the Rotary Gridiron Classic in Orlando, Fla.

January 16, 1886: Coach Oscar Howard's California Golden Bears open the newly formed California Football League season with a 20-2 victory over Wasps Football Club at the grand stands at Fourteenth and Centre streets in Oakland. The contest was one of the first games played on the Pacific Coast utilizing 11 players instead of 15.

January 17, 1987: At the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., Alabama linebacker and future College Football Hall of Fame member Cornelius Bennett slows down the potent North offense, while Mississippi State quarterback and game MVP Don Smith fuels a second half rally, as the South comes from behind to defeat the North 42-38. Christian Okoye of Azusa Pacific (Calif.) sets a Senior Bowl record with four touchdowns, while the combined 80 points is the most in the game's history.

January 18, 1948: West beats the East 34-20 in the first and only Los Angeles All-Star Game.

January 19, 1888: USC concludes its inaugural year of intercollegiate football with a 4-0 win over the Alliance Athletic Club to complete an unbeaten season. The Trojans would not lose a game until 1891.

January 21, 2006: After 80 years in the San Francisco area, the East-West Shrine Game is played in San Antonio's Alamodome. The West, led by Texas A&M quarterback Reggie McNeal, defeat the East 35-31 in front of 18,533.
