2009 Season Overachievers and Underperformers

by Mike Mitchell
December 14, 2009

Each season, some teams perform far better than expected. Others do much worse.

Only two teams on the overachiever list, Washington and Mississippi State, are not headed to a bowl game.

USC is the only team from the underperformers list that is headed to bowl game.

Washington moved from No. 4 on last year's underperformer's list to No. 1 on this year's overachievers list.

Here is a look at the biggest overachievers and underperformers of 2009. The information was gleaned from comparing the power rating of each team in the preseason, to their actual power rating at the end of the regular season, according to the Congrove Computer Rankings (CCR Top 120).
