Boston College Wins Eighth Straight Bowl Game

by Mike Mitchell
December 28, 2007

Matt Ryan's three touchdown passes led Boston College to its eighth straight bowl win, and gave the Eagles their first 11-win season since 1940.

The 24-21 win over Michigan State in the Champs Sports Bowl gave Boston College an 11-3 record under first-year head coach Jeff Jagodzinksi.

Any chance Michigan State had of a late rally was thwarted when Paul Anderson intercepted Brian Hoyer at the Spartans' 29-yard line with two-and-a-half minutes remaining. Michigan State cut the lead to three points with 6:04 to play but was never able to mount a threat in its final two possessions.

Boston College opened the season 8-0 before ending the campaign with three losses in its last five games, including an ACC Championship rematch defeat to Virginia Tech that prevented it from earning a BCS bowl berth.

The Spartans were making their first bowl appearance since 2003.
